Beguiling Barcelona with Paul Alcock in 2017
Paul Alcock, renowned for his landscapes and town images is leading this painting week in Barcelona. Paul loves to paint ‘plein air’ but he equally loves to teach and encourage his students in a relaxed way.
Please have a look at www.arteumbria.com where he is one of our regular tutors to find out more about him.
Barcelona feels a bit surreal – appropriate, since Salvador Dali spent time here and Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí designed several of the city’s buildings. Stepping into Gaudí’s Church of the Sacred Family is a bit like falling through the looking glass - a journey that you can continue with a visit to Park Güell. Sip sangria at a sidewalk café in Las Ramblas while watching flamboyant street performers, then create your own moveable feast by floating from tapas bar to tapas bar.
The week is tailored around you. You are welcome to dip in and out of painting with Paul or do some more sight seeing.
We have arranged a couple of trips during the week to see the famous Gaudi church and an option to visit the Dali museum in Figueres, and we have dinner one night at a local hotel to experience the magical world of Flamenco dancing.

Allow me to state here how much I love Barcelona , an admirable city, a city full of life, intense, a port open to the past and futureLE CORBUSIER - Letter to the members of the GATCPAC on 1928, talking about Barcelona.
We crossed spacious streets, with building resembling palaces, in La Rambla promenade ; the shops were well illuminated and there was movement and life… I did not decide to go to sleep, even though I wished to, so I could rise early and contemplate, in daylight, this city, unknown to me: Barcelona, capital of CataloniaHANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN - On a visits to Barcelona in 1862
